Ruth Sorensen was raised in the remote village of Dillingham Alaska. She earned her BFA in painting at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle Washington. Sorensen works in the medium of oil painting. She has had solo shows in Seattle, Santa Fe, Alaska and Hawaii and collaborated in 1% for Arts public works in Anchorage Alaska. The Alaska State Museum has acquired many of her works in their permanent Collection. After moving the Oahu in 2011 she was selected to participate as a member of an artist live/work space collaborative established through a renovation of a historic landmark building in the heart of Honolulus Chinatown.
In 2015 Sorensen moved to Kailua and worked towards opening Kailua Gallery and Ruth Sorensen Studio in 2018.
